This 18″ hand wired white freshwater pearl necklace features an original antique WWII Belgian Resistance Medal. The Belgian Resistance medal was instituted in 1946 and awarded to all members of the armed resistance and to members of the intelligence services who operated in occupied areas. The original ribbon is included and the colors symbolize; red for the blood shed by the resistance casualties, black for the somber days of the occupation and green for the hope of liberation. The artist who designed the medal was Paul Wissaert who was born in Brussels in 1885. The medal measures 1.5″ in diameter. The necklace features gold filled wire and clasp and gold filled chain along the back for adjusting the length shorter if needed.
